Udyam Registration is the official process in India for registering Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME). It provides your business with a unique identification number known as the Udyam Registration Number (URN).
Purpose of Udyam Registration
Udyam Registration helps small businesses:
Get government benefits such as subsidies, rebates, and tax exemptions.
Access easier loans and credit facilities.
Participate in government tenders reserved for MSMEs.
Obtain protection against delayed payments.
Who Can Register
Any business entity can register under Udyam if it falls under MSME limits:
Type of Enterprise Investment in Plant & Machinery Annual Turnover
Micro Enterprise Up to ₹1 crore Up to ₹5 crore
Small Enterprise Up to ₹10 crore Up to ₹50 crore
Medium Enterprise Up to ₹50 crore Up to ₹250 crore
Documents Required
Registration is paperless and free — only Aadhaar and PAN are required.
Aadhaar Number of the proprietor/partner/director.
PAN Card of the business or individual.
GSTIN (if applicable).
Basic business details like name, type, address, bank info, etc.
How to Register
- Visit the official portal: https://udyamregistration.gov.in
- Click “For New Entrepreneurs who are not Registered yet as MSME or those with EM-II”
- Enter your Aadhaar Number and Name → Validate with OTP.
- Fill in the business details.
- Enter your PAN and GST details.
- Submit the form → You’ll receive an Udyam Registration Certificate with a QR code.
After Registration
The certificate is valid for a lifetime (no renewal required).
You can edit/update business details on the same portal.
Registered MSMEs can apply for various government schemes like:
Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme (CGTMSE)
PMEGP (Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme)
Interest subsidies and more.
If you’ve forgotten your Udyam Registration Number URN
Steps to Retrieve Forgotten Udyam Registration Number
- Go to the official Udyam Registration portal: https://udyamregistration.gov.in
- On the homepage, click “Print/Verify” → “Forgot Udyam Registration Number”
(Direct link: https://udyamregistration.gov.in/Udyam_Verify.aspx) - You’ll see the “Forgot Udyam Registration Number” option.
- Choose one of the options to retrieve:
By Mobile Number (linked with Aadhaar)
By Email ID
- Enter your registered mobile number or email ID, along with the OTP sent to you.
- Your Udyam Registration Number (URN) will be displayed on the screen and also sent to your email/SMS.

Make sure you use the same mobile number or email that was used during registration.
